Mubadala Development Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) to hold two sporting events in Al Ain.
This agreement includes the addition of two community cycling competitions in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain; a long-distance running event; the expansion of the Mubadala Football Tournament - renamed as Mubadala Community Football League - from a one week tournament to a seven month long league with close to 800 players potentially taking part; and the expansion of the Mubadala Community Tennis Cup season, which will run for three weeks.
The Memorandum of Understanding includes cooperation between Mubadala and ADSC in events covering tennis, football, cycling and long-distance running, mostly taking place at Zayed Sports City.
Mubadala's community programme, which currently includes the Mubadala football tournament and Mubadala Tennis in Schools, aims to encourage members of the public to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.
Speaking at the ceremony, Aref Al Awani, general secretary of ADSC said: "We are always keen on activating partnerships with governmental institutions, which contributes to strengthening the development of the sports and community. We look forward to working with our partners at Mubadala to build on the successes they've already achieved through their community engagement program, by expanding this even further."
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Khaled Al Qubaisi, group chief human capital officer and Community Wellbeing Ambassador at Mubadala, said: "Through our programs and partnerships, our aim is to not only empower UAE nationals to realize opportunities in various business sectors which serve Abu Dhabi's economic diversification, but to support the development of a well-rounded generation."
He added: "We have created community events and programmes in football and tennis to encourage the public to maintain an active lifestyle. This partnership with ADSC means we not only strengthen our existing community program, but add exciting events and sports to our current offering, such as cycling."
