The 22nd edition of KSC-UAE Exchange Jimmy George Memorial Ramadan Volleyball Tournament will be held in Abu Dhabi from June 3. And the six-day competition will see top players from different countries, including UAE, Gulf region, India, Egypt and Lebanon in action.
Jimmy George was one of India's greatest volleyball player and also the first to become a professional. George played for Abu Dhabi Sports Club from 1979 to 1982. He later moved to an Italian club. However at the age of 32 years, George died in a car accident in Italy. 'The Flying Indian' has got a stadium named after him in Italy - a rare honour for any Indian sportsperson.
Newly elected president of Kerala Social Centre, Beeran Kutty said the tournament will be held this time in an indoor floodlight court of Emirates Heritage Club in Al Wahda.
"Volleyball is gaining popularity every year. It is a much-awaited tournament for volleyball lovers here. Volleyball is a metaphor for life," Kutty said during a press conference.
KSC general secretary Bijith Kumar said six teams - NMC Healthcare, VPS Healthcare, Ocean King, Khan Club, Only Fresh Dubai and Bin Subie Dubai - will vie for the rolling trophy.
The winner will also get a cash prize of Dh20,000. The runner-up will bag 'Ayoob Master Memorial Trophy' and Dh15,000.
There will be individual honours like best player, best attacker and best blocker etc. 

The matches, played in league-cum-knockout bases, will start from 9pm adding to the excitement of Ramadan night activity.
UAE Exchange has been the main sponsor from the beginning. UAE Exchange president Sudhir Kumar Shetty welcomed all volleyball lovers to the stadium.
"I am happy to have our brand being associated with the tournament for past 22 years," he added.
