Fear and insecurity are the main reasons behind Pakistan's batting struggle during New Zealand's series. The team looked out of sorts and it doesn't auger well as Asia Cup and World T20 are round the corner.
Wasim Akram, while talking to Khaleej Times, said: "Fear of being dropped and lack of technique have played a big role in Pakistan's batting failure in New Zealand. The coaching staff needs to talk to the players and give them some confidence."
Pakistan is known for producing quality fast bowlers but their performance in New Zealand has raised some questions.
"There was no swing and variation for Pakistani bowlers against New Zealand. Although Martin Guptill is in a sublime form and he is one of the three of my favourites batsmen in business today including David Warner and Virat Kohli. I think even I would have struggled against him in such conditions.
"Mohammed Amir has bowled well but he needs some time to get into his groove. I am sure he will be back to his best after having some international matches under his belt since he is quite young (only 24).
"Wahab Riaz has got speed but he is short of swing. He should keep in mind that he can't dwell on one good over in 2015 World Cup. He needs to sort out problems if he harbours any hopes to be among first choices for Pakistan."
The World T20 will be held next month and all the teams are gearing up for mega event.
"Everybody asks me who is the favourite to lift the trophy but it is very difficult to predict in this form of cricket. One over or one catch can change the complexion of the game.
"Pakistan have struggled in New Zealand but I hope conditions in India will suit their bowling and they are going to perform better.
"In my opinion, a team from subcontinent should be favourite to go all the way."
When asked why he preferred the PSL over Master Champions League, he was quite straightforward. "Now I am 50 and it is not my time to play cricket. T20 is the youngsters' game and let them entertain the crowd," he said.
"One or two exhibition matches might be OK for retired players but to play a whole series like the MCL is too taxing. They have passed their prime and sometimes it looks a bit odd.
"The PSL is a huge thing for Pakistan cricket and I am really excited about it like other Pakistanis. It is a blessing in disguise for our youth and I hope we will be able to stage this event in Pakistan in near future."
