As many as 3,090 traffic violation tickets were issued and 360 vehicles confiscated during the recent events held at the Global Village, said Brigadier Safi Mohair Al Mazroui, Director General of Traffic Department at Dubai Police. Apart from this, the police also recorded 192 minor traffic accidents.
The ??vehicles that were impounded flouted rules. A majority of these related to non-renewal of vehicle license and lapse of insurance.
Brigadier General Al Mazrouri said that Dubai traffic police carried out extensive operation during the events, which included regulating traffic in the internal and external streets, as well as diverting vehicles from one street to another to decongest the roads and prevent nightmarish pile-ups.
The traffic police implemented its action plan for smooth and safe traffic flow at the Global Village events that saw a large turnout this year as compared to previous years.
Brigadier General Al Mazrouri pointed out that the Dubai Traffic Department had put in place plans to ensure traffic is not hampered and snarl-ups avoided on the approach streets. He said patrolling was carried out on highways leading to the Global Village -- including Mohammed Bin Zayed Street and Emirates Road. He lauded the efforts of the management of the Global Village and its full cooperation with the General Department of Traffic of the Dubai police by providing all necessary traffic requirements that contributed to removal of traffic bottlenecks thereby facilitating public access to and from the venue.
