A Filipina housemaid stood trial on Sunday on the charge of stealing more than Dh 200,000 worth of expensive watches and jewelry from her sponsor's house in Palm Jumeirah.
The Court of First Instance was told the 40-year-old Filipina housemaid stole the valuables from a safe in her employer's house and then handed them over to her compatriot friend, a salesman.

The latter, 39, was charged on Sunday with possession of stolen items.
The maid's sponsor, a 30-year-old Indian company owner, said the maid was allowed to enter the bedrooms to clean.
"She had been working for me for one year and a half. She would clean and wash the clothes and take care of my son. But she stole 7 watches in addition to diamond and gold jewelry worth more than Dh 200,000. I don't know exactly when the theft happened," he told the prosecutor.
"On December 2, last year, I was out of the UAE when I was contacted by the CID officers. They told me a Filipino man was caught trying to sell stolen jewelry at the Gold Souq. That Filipino was involved with my maid who was arrested later".

The complainant added that the maid stole the jewelry from a safe in his bedroom. "The safe had a serial number and keys. My wife must have forgotten to close it". The two accused admitted to the charges during the investigation. The next hearing will be held on February 22.
