With the approaching rainy season, the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) has put all preparations in place to provide free inspection and maintenance service to ensure safety of drainage systems as well as secure electric connections in residential, industrial and commercial buildings.
Dr Rashid Al Aleem, chairman of Sewa, said that it has braced itself up to deploy technical teams who have been trained to monitor and fix the problems related to water flow during the rainy season. The team would also be responsible for clearing water-logged roads in low-lying areas.
He urged residents to take precautionary measures so that drainage systems are safe and power connections are free from damage.
Dr Al Leem stressed that Sewa is cooperating with all government departments and institutions in Sharjah to provide the best facilities to the residents and eliminate any glitches related to utility services, while equipping itself to face emergency situations.
He explained that Sewa makes huge efforts during weather emergency - like heavy downpour - by cooperating with operations room of the Sharjah Police round-the-clock to ensure proper functioning of traffic lights in Sharjah.
He pointed out that heavy rains lead to a rise in the water level in the residential areas and cause snapping of power. In such cases, Sewa coordinates with the municipality and carries out water suction to allow technical teams to perform the necessary maintenance and restore electricity in a short time.
He pointed out that teams of technicians work 24 hours and repair any snags that occur during the rains.
He urged the public to seek help and support and provide feedback through the website of the Sewa or by e-mail conservation@sewa.gov.ae or contact the call centre 991.
