On Saturday, the Sharjah Police launched an anti-begging campaign under the slogan 'fight begging and help those who deserve it' as part of the holy month of Ramadan.
The campaign aims at raising awareness among the members of the society on the dangers of responding to 'fake beggars.' The police intensified patrols in various parts of the emirate to curb the negative practice.
The police also started a comprehensive awareness campaign by distributing publications in all languages and making announcement on social medial and other means of communication.
The campaign comes as part of the Ministry of Interior's anti-begging drive being organised across the country to curb the begging which increases around mosques, shopping centres, markets and residential areas during Ramadan.
The campaign covers all parts of the emirate to educate public about the dangers of such negative phenomenon that tarnish the image of the UAE.
The police have urged the residnets to cooperate in order to curb the phenomenon by not falling prey to demands of the beggars to help them with money and call the police at 901 to inform about beggar activities in the emirate. The Dubai Police had introduced cilvilian patrols last week to combat the menace of begging during Ramadan. Last year, the Dubai Police had arrested 641 beggars during Ramadan.
