The Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MoID) has developed a new rainwater drainage network on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road (E311) following a report on last year's rainfall.
Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development, said: "The main hotspots identified on the arterial Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road are Exits 129, 119, 110, and 103."
He added that the ministry has identified the reasons behind the last showers' aftermath landslides and water ponds, and laid down the right solutions for the same.
The ministry has also created a special team of staff engineers to handle all emergency cases during showers, he added. "These will support the local partners concerned."
The emergency team formed is assigned to remove rain water wastages, if needed, as well as ensure smooth traffic flow during the rains.
The minister said that they have recently posted a hashtag (#Be Safe) to curb traffic accidents on federal roads and handle rainwater ponds and all other issues related to traffic safety.
"A toll free number (80088889) has been assigned to report any damage on federal roads."
Dr Nuaimi said four sub teams come under the emergency team. "These include Ghaith team, which is concerned with rainwater ponds and consequent damages and coming up with fast and effective solutions in collaboration with local partners."
The Rumaila team is to study the sand and dust accumulating areas, identify the reasons behind, and introduce efficient solutions for the same, he stated. "The Salama team is to study the traffic safety system on federal roads, while the 'Nura' team is to follow up the lighting of federal roads."
Dr Nuaimi added: "The UAE is one of the countries most prepared for rain aftermath with a number of vital projects up to the latest international standards."
