One of the best feelings in life is seeing a smile on a person's face and knowing that you put it there. This was what 25 youngsters from Green Hope UAE, a local youth sustainability organisation, experienced when the handed out food packs and juices in reusable bags to 205 workers at labour accommodations in Sonapur. The workers were also given reusable bowls.
Green Hope members then explained the concepts of recycling and reuse to the workers, urging them not to waste and at the same time use these goods which were biodegradable.
"We, as members of society, strengthen our foundations of fellow feeling and harmony through selfless acts of sharing and caring," said Basu.
Founder of Green Hope UAE and environmentalist Kehkashan Basu, said they chose the blessed month of Ramadan for the noble act as that is what the holy month is all about. "The holy month of Ramadan is one of sharing, caring and giving.
It is a time for introspection and one of spiritual renewal and gratitude for the bounties bestowed upon all human beings," Basu said.

Some of the members of Green Hope are as young as 9 and seeing them hand out meals to the labourers was just beautiful.
"The smiles of the labourers as they accepted the food packs really made our day. They were especially delighted with our engagement and interactions which helped to build a bond of happiness with us. At Green Hope, we believe that every section of civil society must join hands for a sustainable future," Basu added.
Our Green Ramadan campaign would not be possible without the support of Apple International School , Panache' International and ICONS Coffee Couture who have always joined hands with Green Hope to bring a smile on the faces of the unsung heroes who form the backbone of our society.
"Every year during Ramadan, we gather our resources and contribute food packets to the workers. Most of these workers are away from their families and really look forward and enjoy these interactions with us," Basu said.
This year, we wanted to make our Ramadan campaign "green" by spreading the message of waste reduction and recycling , while at the same time bring happiness into the lives of the workers during this holy month.
