Navdeep Singh Suri is appointed as the new Indian Ambassador to the UAE. Suri is serving as the High Commissioner of India in Australia. He will replace TP Seetharam, who retired from service on August 31.

He is expected to take up the assignment shortly, according to an Indian Embassy official.
Suri hails from the north Indian state of Punjab. The 56-year-old is the grandson of well-known novelist and poet Nanak Singh.

It was in 1983 that Suri joined the Indian Foreign Service. He has served in the diplomatic missions in Cairo, Damascus, Washington, Dar es Salaam and London and as India?s Consul General in Johannesburg. He has also headed the West Africa and Public Diplomacy divisions at the Ministry of External Affairs.

In June 2012, Suri started his stint as the Indian Ambassador to Egypt. It was during his tenure that he oversaw a successful state Visit of Egypt's President Mohamed Mursi to India in March 2013.
It was in February 2015 that Suri was named as India's next High Commissioner to Australia.
His innovative use of social media in public diplomacy has received extensive recognition and two prestigious awards.

Suri knows Arabic and French, has a Masters degree in Economics and has written on India's Africa policy, on Public Diplomacy and on the IT outsourcing industry.
His English translations of Nanak Singh's classic Punjabi novels have been published by Penguin as 'The Watchmaker' and by Harper Collins as 'A Life Incomplete'.
Suri's wife Mani has a degree in Economics and is a graphic designer and potter.
They have two daughters, a journalist and an avid environmentalist.
