A nine-year-old Emirati girl drowned after falling into a deep rain pond in the Shawkah district of Al Manei area.
According to a senior police officer, her cousin was rescued by the father of the dead girl, who was identified as A.F.M.
Col Saeed Mohammed Al Muhairi, Chief of the Manei Police Station, said the central operations room of the RAK Police was alerted on Saturday evening about two young girls falling into a rain pond.
The traffic patrols, ambulances, paramedics, and rescue teams were dispatched to the site in a record time, he added.
The father of the deceased told the police that he was accompanying his family to enjoy the rain at the Wadi Shawkah when the accident happened.
"I went to fetch some items from the car, but was shocked to hear my family members screaming for help," he said.
When he arrived at the scene, the two little girls were in a deep rain pond, Col Muhairi elaborated.
"The father managed to rescue the nine-year-old girl of his brother, D.R.F., but he could not save the life of his own daughter."
The two little girls were rushed to the nearest hospital. "The first girl, identified as T.F., was already dead but the second was rescued."
Col Muhairi warned residents to be cautious, and avoid rain ponds which might be seriously deep.
