This year 300 student teams from private and public schools across the UAE competed for a chance to participate in the World Robotic Olympiad (WRO) and 18 of them have made it through.
After two days of robotic challenges, on September 27-28, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) announced, on Wednesday, the best entries in each of the three categories that will travel to Doha, Qatar, for the WRO on November 6-8 this year.
"We are very proud of our students who won the competition and are confident that they are more than equipped and ready to compete in the international challenge," said Dr. Najla Al Naqbi, e-learning manager at Adec.
In the Regular Category, the top three winners of elementary schools are Sharjah Children Centre (first place), Kalba Children's Centre in Fujairah (second place) and Rashid bin Humaid Modern School in Ajman (third place).
For junior high schools in the same categories the winners are: Rashid bin Hameed Modern School in Ajman (first place), Fun Robotics Centre in Dubai (second place) and Al Jumana School in Khor Fakkan.
Overall, the American Community School of Abu Dhabi ranked first in the Regular Category.
Students from the Rashid bin Hameed Modern School in Ajman won in the Football Category, followed by Al Tamayoz School in Al Ain, which got second place and Al Nokhba School in the Western Region in third place.
The Open Category was won by the Fun Robotics Centre (first place), the Millennium School in Dubai (second place), Al Raheed School in Fujairah (third place), Our Own High School in Dubai (fourth place) and the Ministry of Education team (fifth place).
"All our students were dedicated to winning, yet had fun experimenting with their robots, which is exactly what we aim to achieve at Adec, to encourage students to engage in innovative and creative activities," added Al Naqbi.
