Do you have old books that are gathering dust at home? Wipe them clean and head over to 'Books2Benefit', a charity book sale that is expected to have over 20,000 books on sale for two days.
The sale will take place on September 18 and 19 at the Oasis Mall on Shaikh Zayed Road. Organised by Medulla corporate social responsibility (CSR) and marketing consultancy, the book collection and sale is a fist-time initiative.
"We have collected over 20,000 books since July 2015. The response towards the drive has been overwhelming ... Schools and schoolchildren have shown tremendous interest towards the initiative and have donated several hundred books," said Ursula Manvatkar, founder of Medulla and the primary event organiser of Books2Benefit.

When? Where? > The Books2Benefit charity book sale
> On September 18-19
> From 10am to 9pm
> At Oasis Centre, Shaikh Zayed Road, Dubai
The sale will have something for fans of every genre of writing. "Fiction, non-fiction, educational, cookery, gardening, hobbies, art and craft, sports, health, comics, self-help, science, medical, encyclopedias, children's books, religion, foreign languages ... Every kind of book has been collected," said Manvatkar.
The books will cost anywhere between Dh5 and Dh30. Some books will even be available for under Dh5, Manvatkar added. "Depending on the success of this event, we are planning on organising it twice a year," she said.
All proceeds from the charity book sale will go to the Manzil Special Needs Centre in Sharjah.
Roshni Raimalwala, a volunteer of the initiative, said: "Volunteers collected the books from community members and have been storing them at the Oasis Mall. The sorting and labeling of books was done from September 6 to 11."
The event will also have entertainment programmes like face painting, balloon bending and book reading. These are in addition to mother-children activities/games on stage.
Manvatkar said: "We are organising this event to give back to the community. As a business, you need to be responsible towards the needs of the community because you are sharing resources with other community members. It is the only way that businesses will be sustainable."
Sanjay Kapoor, general manager, Oasis Mall, said: "With this campaign, we aim to ... instil good reading habits among members of the community, which is dwindling, especially among the new generation. More than a fund-raiser, this book sale is a platform for book-lovers in Dubai. We will continue to create meaningful campaigns by making a difference in our communities."
