The Court of First Instance charged a 30-year-old Indonesian housemaid with theft on Wednesday for allegedly stealing 12,000 Egyptian pounds and a smart phone from her employer.
The incident happened on October 3.
The employer, an Egyptian architect, told the prosecuting investigators that he was with his wife at a mall when his 10-year-old son called him to say that the maid went to dispose of the garbage and did not come back.
"After returning home, I found that 12,000 Egyptian pounds were missing. And also the smart phone I purchased for her. I was going to deduct the cost of the phone from her salary but she absconded after 23 days."
The maid admitted in the investigation that she opened the closet at her employer's house looking for valuables to steal. She then stole Egyptian bank notes from a bag and gave the money to a compatriot man.
The court will hand down a verdict on December 30.
