A 33-year-old Emirati man succumbed to fatal injuries after a speeding car ran over him here in Ras Al Khaimah on Tuesday.
The victim, identified only as M.G.A., was crossing the road when his cap fell off his head because of the wind, according to a senior police officer.
Col Ali Saeed Al Alkeem, director of traffic and patrols department with RAK police, late on Tuesday said a speeding car ran over the victim while he went back to the road to get his cap.
"Initial investigations show that the accident was blamed on the driver of the speeding car who was a 21-year-old Emirati young man, identified simply as F.Y.A."
The central operations room of the RAK Police, having been alerted of the accident, dispatched traffic patrols, ambulances, and paramedics to the site in record time, but the victim could not make it and died on the spot.
"The body of the victim was shifted to the morgue of Saqr Hospital and the accident file has been referred to the RAK traffic prosecution for action."
Lt-Col Alkeem urged all pedestrians to be more cautious on the road and make sure the road is clear before crossing. "Drivers need to be completely attentive on the road, and observe speed limit."
