The Abu Dhabi Sports Council Swimming Festival will take place today at Al Hudayriat Island - the latest addition to the Capital's leisure ad entertainment sector. The festival will kick off at 7am with hundreds of swimming enthusiasts.
The massive island spanning 3,000 acres includes a huge cycling track that runs across the Hudayriat Bridge. There are also two loops of running and cycling tracks, measuring 5km and 10km. Cyclists will be able to rent bicycles from the island for Dh50 per hour.
The island also includes a public beach, which opened to swimmers shortly after Ramadan. The beach measures over 600 metres and includes lifeguards on hand.
Moreover, the island includes four volleyball courts, five football fields, four beach football courts and four basketball courts. Mountain-bike courses are said to soon take place on the island, as well as kite-surfing, a zip line and kayaking. There is also an area for those who would like to jet ski, which includes a slipway for jet skies and boats, located under the main bridge.
In addition, camping grounds will be available for overnight stays on the island.
The island also includes mobile dining, with various food truck facilities.
