The Sharjah Bridal Fair, one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the region, has donated Dh52,000 to the Ameera Fund to support cancer patients worldwide.
The fund was launched by Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder of the Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP), and Chairperson of The Big Heart Foundation, in recognition of the outstanding humanitarian contributions of the late Ameera BinKaram and her ceaseless voluntary work to support cancer patients in the UAE and beyond.
Hanan Al Mahmoud, director of Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre (JRCC), presented the donation to Mariam Al Hammadi, director of The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF). The gift came from the proceeds generated from entrance fees to the second edition of the Sharjah Bridal Fair, which was organised and hosted by the JRCC from May 3-6.
"The wise leadership and generous people of the UAE are known for their charity, philanthropy and kind hearts. Compassion and care are their main focus at many events and initiatives, and there is a collective desire to help those less fortunate, locally, regionally and globally.
"In line with UAE Year of Giving, we were keen to emphasise that the second edition of the Sharjah Bridal Fair would focus not only on bridal and wedding products, but also on providing a platform for humanitarian issues by offering visitors the opportunity to support cancer patients. We are delighted to see the audience respond to the call in such large numbers, and we thank every person who attended and contributed to this noble cause," she added.
Mariam Al Hammadi said: "We thank the management of the Sharjah Bridal Fair for their generous donation to the Ameera Fund. Such generosity reflects their commitment to being part of a caring society which supports people in need wherever they may be."
Al Hammadi underlined that through the Ameera Fund, TBHF seeks to alleviate the suffering of cancer patients and help them to cover medical costs in alignment with the directives of Sheikha Jawaher. Al Hammadi encouraged corporates and individuals to promote the values of giving, goodness and selflessness.
She stressed that no matter how large or small the contribution, every donation breathed new hope into those who need it most.
