16-year-old Italian girl has been arrested in the UK for sex offences against her six-year-old brother and for distributing child pornography on social media, Italian Police said on Wednesday.
The teen was arrested on a European arrest warrant and faces charges of sexual violence against a child, sex with a child, abusing a family member and disseminating child pornography online, police said.
At the time of the alleged abuse, which lasted over a period of four months, the brother and sister were living in the northeastern Italian city of Verona but have since moved to the UK with their family, said police.
The girl had been groomed on Facebook by a 40-year-old suspected paedophile who used a fake profile to pose as a 17-year-old girl, according to investigators.
The man, who was arrested earlier this year, became friends with the girl and persuaded her to engage in lewd acts on camera and to send him obscene images of her and her brother via the encrypted WhatsApp messenging service, investigators said.
