IT MAY BE difficult to pinpoint Dubai's favourite pastime as a whole, but food and dining has to rank pretty high. With countless restaurants around town and a strong eating-out culture, not to mention the bounty of produce available to cook at home, meals and the discussion thereof take up a large proportion of our day.
It's not surprising, therefore, that we find ourselves on the cusp of one of Dubai's premiere culinary events, Eat the World DXB, taking place at Burj Park from February 23 to 25. With food trucks, cuisines and chefs attending from all over the globe, we thought we'd give you a run down of what to expect.
Fame from Asia
Celebrity Chef Woo Wai Leong (MasterChef Asia winner, pictured) and Chef Bjorn Shen from Singapore will be doing cooking demos at 5pm on Friday.
Being the first ever winner of MasterChef Asia only solidified Chef Woo Wai Leong's choice to leave behind a legal career and enter the world of food and drink. A love of classic ingredients has given him a foundation upon which to rework them using Asian products and traditional Chinese medicine to produce something comforting and familiar, yet new and exciting.
Singapore sensation
Singapore is widely regarded as the 'capital of street food' with its incredibly diverse and delicious food culture. Five renowned Singaporean street food traders are joining a world-class line-up of street food trucks from the USA, UK and the UAE.
Alongside 10 American and 10 UK food traders, five of Singapore's leading street food hawkers will make their mark. Boasting its own branded Singaporean pavilion, guests can expect delicious dishes from the likes of Kerbside Gourmet, which focuses on wholesome, fresh soul food; Chef Shen Ten, whose traditional Nasi Lemak recipe has created quite the food movement on her home turf; and Kway Guan Huat Joo Chiat Popiah - the brainchild behind the popular and fresh spring rolls.
Take on the 'Burg-Khalifa'!
With Wagu beef, truffled cheese and a 24ct gold bun, UK street food trader The Roadery offers the ultimate burger challenge.
The magnificent burger was born after nearly a month in the test kitchen and comprises some of the finest luxury ingredients known to mankind. The Burg-Khalifa boasts five glorious stories of Wagyu beef patty, truffled cheese and seared foie gras, all decadently topped with saffron mayonnaise and blackberry ketchup. Oh, and it comes served inside an edible 24-carat gold leaf brioche bun. Yep, you read that right.a gold bun.
What's more, The Roadery team will be giving away one Burg-Khalifa to the first two customers to say the secret password of the day. Hungry foodies hankering for the high life should follow
@theroadery on Snapchat to uncover the phrase.
Extra helpings
With a celebrity chef theatre, an artisanal food market plus outdoor cinema featuring a specially curated programme of food-themed films, there's something to satisfy every palette.
