City Times weighs in on some of the movies releasing in UAE this weekend.

Aftermath

Arnie's back, but not in his usual role. Yes, as the hulking Austrian approaches his 70th year he has taken on a more dramatic part and, you know what, it may have actually paid off. Aftermath is a harrowing story of loss, grief and potential for revenge. Based on the true story of a Russian man who lost his family in a plane crash only to find and kill the negligent air traffic controller, Aftermath is perhaps the more sensitive version of events. Arnie plays construction worker Roman who is excited to have his wife and expect-ant daughter return home after a trip. Heading to the airport to pick them up, whilst an air traffic controller takes a quick break, two planes collide while descending for the same runway. Roman's family was onboard one. The airline moves fast to cov-er their tracks. The controller is smuggled away and given a new identity and Roman is offered a token sum in compensation. It is not enough. Roman sets about trying to find the controller just to hear an apology and lay his torment to rest.

Trivia: Also stars Maggie Grace

Going in Style

Looking very much like Last Vegas meets Ocean's 11 (although nothing could be quite as bad as Last Vegas), Going in Style will no doubt be an amusing heist movie that will pass a couple of hours, if only for the amiable cast. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Alan Arkin are three pensioners who struggle to keep themselves and their families above the bread line. When their mutual bank goes under and loses their money, they decide to knock it off to recoup their losses. it's pretty straight-forward, but who are we to pass up the opportunity to see Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman on screen together?

Trivia: Scrubs/ Zach Braff directs.

The Devil's Candy

It's horror but not as we know it. that should be the tagline for this one. Based on director Sean Byrne's anxiety about becoming a father for the first time, this psychological/ metal horror flick shows the plight of a struggling painter who becomes possessed by satanic forces after moving himself and his family into a dream home. it may sound like a typical slasher flick, yet it is anything but as regular tropes are subverted and, as a result, events become creepier.
Rotten Tomatoes gives this 92%
Trivia: Watch out for Pruitt Taylor Vince's superb performance

Salt and Fire

A thriller starring Michael Shanon, Veronica Ferres, Gael Garcia Bernal and directed by Werner Herzog, this should be a homerun, right? Wrong. this looks to be the turkey of the week and it's a shame because the premise isn't that bad. two ecologists (Bernal and Ferres) are sent to Bolivia to investigate an environmental disaster. the CEO of the company responsible for said disaster (Shannon) has them kidnapped and left for dead on vast salt planes. When a nearby volcano looks likely to erupt the two must work together to escape. okay, maybe it doesn't sound that good after all.
Rotten Tomatoes gives it 31%
