Around 50 technology companies, which are participating at Gitex Technology Week, are representing a very dynamic 'Make in India' at the show.
This was stated by the consul general of India in Dubai, Anurag Bhushan, after the inauguration of the Indian Pavilion at the Gitex 2016 in Dubai on Sunday.
"I am very happy with the big participation of Indian companies at the show. The kind of response on the first day is very encouraging and we hope next couple of days will be good for our exhibitors," the consul general told Khaleej Times.
It is estimated that electronics goods export to Middle Eastern countries during 2015-16 is valued more than $1 billion. Amongst the ME countries, the UAE is the top destination for India's electronics exports, followed by Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
The Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) is once again ensuring that India's participation comes in a big way at Gitex. Its chairman, Prasad Garapati, said Gitex is one of the premier exhibitions where the council's members participate. "This exhibition is very effective and result oriented as it connects our exhibitors to around 19 countries in the Middle East and Africa," the chairman said.
During the fiscal year 2015-16, export of software and related services to Middle East reached to a level of around $2 billion (Dh7.34 billion). India's total export of software and related services was $108 billion, he informed.
ESC executive director, D. K. Sareen, said that the council has been participating at the Gitex consistently for several years and the participating Indian companies under ESC's banner have reported a high degree of satisfaction. Sareen added that the participating Indian companies have reported to have bagged significant businesses, forged joint ventures, marketing tie ups, etc. with the buyers visiting the exhibition.
Kamal Vachani, regional director for Middle East at ESC, said: "ESC has been facilitating Indian participation on a regular basis at Gitex to take advantage of the booming IT market in the Gulf and leveraging that association for getting businesses for Indian IT companies from multitude of large global corporations, which are executing projects in the region."
The Indian consul general and top executives of ESC appreciated the efforts of Vachani in the region to help promote IT related business. Vachani has been representing the ESC in the Middle East since 1999.
