Al Ahli frontman Rodrigo Lima fired a brilliant hat trick as the Red Knights returned to winning ways by brushing aside newcomers Hatta in the sixth round of the Arabian Gulf League.
Held to a stalemate by Al Quasis rivals Al Shabab last time out, Cosmin Olaroiu's men smashed six past Hatta at the Rashid Stadium on Wednesday night.
After Ahmed Khalil had given the Red Knights the lead on 16 minutes, Lima struck a quick hat trick, which included a penalty. The 33-year-old's goals came on 29, 34 and 42 minutes. He later put the finishing touches with his fourth on 76 minutes after which compatriot Everton Ribeiro rounded of the night with the sixth, from a penalty, in the final minute of regulation time.
That took Lima's tally to six goals in the League, three behind table topper Ali Ahmed Mabkhout of Al Jazira.
It was Al Ahli's fourth win in five outings and it took them to 13 points. Meanwhile, Hatta, who have been impressive since earning promotion to the League, suffered their second defeat in six matches.
Al Ahli coach Olaroiu was more than pleased with the quality of football from his lads.
"Our first target is to play football and through the style of play bring people to the stadium. We played good quality football, especially in the first half. But we relaxed a bit later as Hatta played more defensive. More than the score and the win it is the way we played. That's the most important thing," the Romanian said after the game.
Meanwhile, Hatta coach Gjoko Hadzievski said that his players made some "junior" mistakes but added that they will look to rectify the blemishes.
"I have been a coach for more than 30 years and I don't remember losing 6-0. So I'm disappointed. These were junior mistakes and we need a bit of time to change and rectify them," he said.
Elsewhere, in Ras Al Khaimah, the League's leaders Al Jazira were held to a 1-1 draw by Emirates at the Emirates Club Stadium.
Striker Ali Ahmed Mabkhout's strike on 31 minutes was cancelled out by Ahmad Ibrahim on 64 minutes. It was pretty much one way traffic as Al Ahli took hold of proceedings right from the beginning.
And they were ahead on 16 minutes with Ahmed Khalil netting his third goal of the League after he broke clear and smacked it into the net, following a looping ball from Habib Al Fardan. Khalil embarked on a solo on 28 minutes but was brought down by goalkeeper Obid Raihan. The referee pointed to the spot and Lima tucked it in neatly.
Lima then got his second on 34 minutes, smacking it from close range after Ismail Al Hammadi had crossed from the right. He then completed his hat trick by nicking it past Raihan following an impressive floater from Abdulaziz Haikal.
Hatta's lone threat came from Rafael Bastos with his freekick hitting the cross bar on 53 minutes.
