A Filipino man, who had a heart attack at Dubai International Airport's Terminal 1, was successfully saved by the paramedics of the Dubai Corporation of Ambulance Services (DCAS) of Dubai Airport.
The man fell unconscious after suffering from a sudden heart attack at the Dubai Airport. The doctors revealed that he did not have a heart beat rate, which signified that the situation was dire and it bought down the chances of his survival drastically.
The first step taken by DCAS paramedics was to trace the patient's medical history, which revealed that he had existing heart problems.
According to Ali Mousa Al Hafzi, Head of the Airports and Ports Ambulance Section, the paramedics reached the patient within four minutes of the attack. "They (paramedics) checked the patient and performed the CPR procedure on him. They also used a defibrillator and provided him with an oxygen mask and kept monitoring his breathing," he added.
Mousa said the patient's heartbeats and normal breathing were restored after the third round of defibrillation and the fourth round of CPR. The patient literally "came back to life" in a near miracle, Al Hafzi said.
He was then moved to the airport's clinic, accompanied by a physician, and then to the hospital by ambulance as he needed intensive care.
The combined efforts of the DCAS paramedics and the airport's clinic physician helped save the patient from succumbing to the cardiac arrest, Al Hafzi noted.
