A man, who was drunk and high on drugs, and passed out in his car at a petrol station, has lost his appeal against a 4-year jail sentence.
The 29-year-old Emirati was found guilty of taking drugs and consuming alcohol by the Court of First Instance in June this year. He appealed the conviction but lost the appeal.
He earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges in court, claiming he was coerced into confession during the police questioning.
The man had been reported to the police after he parked his car at the petrol station and remained unconscious inside. The defendant's toxicology tests showed he had taken hashish and drunk alcohol prior to his arrest on March 21 by Al Rashidiyah police and Anti-Narcotics officers.
"We received a report about a man suspected to be high on drugs in his car at a petrol station on Ras Al Khor road," an Anti-Narcotics department officer said. The officers tried in vain to talk to the defendant and revive him, who was lying in the back seat.
According to prosecution records, more than half a kilo of hashish was found in his possession, besides 48 narcotic pills.
The defendant has also been accused of giving a false name when questioned by the police, using his brother's name.
The drugs were confiscated as per the court's order.
