A teenage boy who was detained for reckless driving and performing dangerous stunts near a school has been ordered to clean streets and public squares for three months.
The Abu Dhabi public prosecution on Monday handed down the punishment to the 19-year-old Emirati as part of implementation of the community service punishments.
This is the first time the community service as punishment has been enforced in Abu Dhabi. The teen was arrested last week and charged with reckless driving, endangering the life of another person and driving a vehicle with no number plates.
Officials said the young man took his car to perform dangerous stunts in front of a group of onlookers near one of the schools in Al Shamikha area.
And because of the slippery roads caused by rains, he lost control of his vehicle and hit one of the bystanders by the car. Clips of his stunts were also shared on social media.

In addition to the community service, the young man was also fined Dh17,000 for negligence and causing an accident. Officials also ordered that his driving license be taken away from him for a period of three months.
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department had earlier this month announced the rules and guidelines for community service as part of implementation of the 2016 federal law No 7.
The type of community services specified included cleaning streets, public squares, beaches, parks and natural sanctuaries, special needs care, transporting patients, cleaning and maintaining mosques, maintaining public parks and others.

Authorities said the community service has replaced detention in minor crimes that otherwise do not exceed more than six months imprisonment of a fine. A new public prosecution specialising in implementation of community service measures had been set up following a resolution issued by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
The prosecution was also given authority to postpone the implementation of the community service for a person in case it deems inappropriate at that time.
