Dubai is preparing to host 2019 First Global DXB Challenge, the biggest robotic challenge in the world, held for the first time in the region from October 24 to 27.
The event will bring together more than 1,500 youth from over 191 countries to collaborate, create and compete for a better future.
"Hosting such global events enables Dubai to translate this guidance into reality and ensure positive outcomes that benefit humankind," said Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.
Sheikh Hamdan, who is also the chairman of the board of trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation, organisers of the challenge, said the importance of the event stems from its focus on engaging young people in finding solutions for future challenges.
The UAE won the bid to host the First Global Challenge at the seventh World Government Summit in Dubai last February.
Look out for water robots
The challenge, under the theme 'Ocean Opportunities', focuses on developing robots to clean up the millions of tons of pollutants in the oceans produced mainly by factories, mismanaged sewage systems and marine activities, which adversely affect marine life and the environment.
