The Umm Al Quwain (UAQ)-Ajman Road has reopened today after five days of closure due to the ongoing construction works of the new UAQ bridge.
Lt-Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of the UAQ Police Directorate General, said they have already opened a section on the Shaikh Zayed Road in the Salma area to ease traffic flow.
The UAQ Traffic and Patrols Department had blocked the main road at the entrance of the emirate in the direction of Ajman and Al Hamriya for five days.
“This was actually a precautionary measure to ensure drivers’ safety because of the ongoing excavation works under the main road in a bid to lay down the major pipes and build up the principal basis of the new UAQ bridge,” he said.
“We managed to decrease the road block period from ten to only five days to curb traffic congestion and ensure road users’ safety.”
Drivers can now come and go to Ajman and Al Hamriya area from Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, he said.
More traffic patrols are deployed to ease traffic flow at all roads of the northern emirate, bin Aran said.
“We are coordinating with the company responsible for building the UAQ bridge under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works.”
Bin Aran also said that the engineering team of the UAQ Traffic and Patrols Department has also agreed to instal the main underground pipelines in order to finish the work as fast as possible.
Bin Aran indicated that the traffic entering the emirate from the Etihad Road is running smoothly. “Drivers may easily enter UAQ from the Salma roundabout and reach downtown as well.”
