Heavy vehicles and trucks will not be permitted to enter Abu Dhabi during the New Year holiday, police announced on Sunday.
According to a statement issued on social media, Abu Dhabi Police Head Government headquarters - in coordination with the Department of Transport - said that heavy vehicles and trucks are not allowed to enter Abu Dhabi from December 31 to  January 1, 2019.

The move is part of wider efforts to improve traffic safety, reduce accidents and help the flow of traffic, said Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, director of the traffic and patrols.
He said that traffic patrols would be intensified and key roads will also be monitored. 
He called on road users to exercise caution while driving to avoid traffic accidents and act responsibly on the road.
