Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and Art of Living Abu Dhabi Chapter is organising an event to enlighten public about the disease.
Art of Living with the support of Abu Dhabi Municipality and Ahalia Hospital will hold 'Yoga and Glaucoma: An Attempt towards stress free life' at Corniche on Thursday evening.
Art of Living member and organiser Vamsi Krishna said glaucoma is a complicated disease.
"It's an eye disorder with usually few or no initial symptoms and if untreated or uncontrolled can lead to blindness. Thus, we are taking this initiative during the World Glaucoma Week, which is marked between March 12 and 18," Krishna said.
Ahalia Hospital ophthalmology specialist Baswati Prasanth will talk about the disease, causes, symptoms and screening tests among others, and Art of Living senior international faculty Dr Veena Pramod on prevention through special eye yoga and meditation.
According to organisers, the event is a great opportunity for the general public to know about the 'silent thief of vision'.
"Glaucoma has affected around 64 million people worldwide and is expected to touch 80 million by 2020. Many people could be walking around without realising they have Glaucoma," Krishna said.
The event is free and open to the public.
