With merely four weeks left for 2017 to draw to a close, our diaries and inboxes are brimming with holiday party invitations. The festive season is well and truly here. And while you are busy revamping your festive wardrobe, don't forget to get your skin ready to take on the onslaught of vacation revelry. The holiday season is a joyous time of the year but with all the food, drinks, sweets and sleepless nights, your skin is bound to take a toll. So, how do you combat that?
Peel in advance
Schedule a peel or facial one or two weeks in advance to make sure any irritation has subsided before you leave for your vacation. The last thing you need is to look red and irritated in your holiday photos. You can either opt for a peel at home or book one at one of the local medical centres.
Adopt a multi-tasking moisturiser
'Tis the season to find a moisturiser that will do some serious skin-saving for you. The sooner you can add a power-packed product to your routine, the sooner you'll reap the benefits. Look for a moisturiser with sun protection, brighteners (like Vitamin C), skin plumpers, wrinkle-smootheners, blemish erasers and skin lighteners, so you have every potential skincare concern covered in time for the party circuit.
Self-hydrate
While this is true for any time of the year, it is all the more important during the holiday season. Staying hydrated is one of the most important steps you can take towards making sure your skin looks great for any event you're attending. From drinking more water to using a humidifier at night, get more moisture into your environment and body to combat the drier weather, which can cause skin to look tight and flaky.
Less is more
If you are going to use makeup (which, of course, you are), try to avoid caking too heavily; if you have to, then use breathable products, especially the foundation you use to avoid acne and breakouts. More importantly, remember to remove your makeup at the end of the night, not leaving any residue on the skin, as that can lead to pimple formation.
Use facial oils
Facial oils have been the flavour of the season. It always seems to be the case that on the eve of a big event, an ill-placed spot appears. Avoid that last-minute pimple ruining your night by dabbing tea tree oil at the first sign of a blemish; it will - most likely - greatly diminish or disappear by morning. Oils also help skin remain moisturised and plump.
Get exfoliating
Get your skin ultra-smooth with a little extra effort. Whether you use a loofah sponge or washcloth, adding extra exfoliation to your routine while you cleanse your skin helps boost its smoothness apart from minimising pores and reducing flakiness.
Follow these simple skincare tips for a fresh face and you're ready to go on a holiday!
