Dubai – The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, as part of its promising schemes for the holy month of Ramadan, has so far distributed 117,000 free Iftar meals, worth Dh2,340,000, to poor people.
The Department is geared up to contribute 270,000 free Iftar meals, worth over Dh5.4 million, during Ramadan at three different areas in Dubai, according to a top official.
“We are distributing 9,000 daily meals, worth Dh180,000, at air-conditioned ‘Ramadan Tents’ in the areas of Al Muhaisanah, Al Qouz, and Ras Al Khor,” said Dr Hamad Al Shaibani, director general of the department.
The Department is so keen on following the steps of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he added. “He advised us to feed the fasting and promised similar reward.”
While each and every meal, not only contains various delicious foods and drinks, guests, mostly basic workers, have the chance to enjoy a series of simplified lectures in Arabic and Urdu, Dr Shaibani said.
“The low-income workers are enlightened about the tolerance of Islam, along with the rulings, values, and benefits of fasting the holy month of Ramadan, apart from simple quizzes and valuable prizes.”
This is not everything, Dr Shaibani underlined. “All tents are equipped with competent medical cadres to give free check-ups, mainly diabetes, blood pressure, and teeth care, let alone free personal care items.”
Big-size LCD screens are installed in all the Ramadan tents to help enlighten workers with simple health and religious tips, he stated.
“Such promising move is meant to ease the suffering of this important segment of the society and meet their needs in the holy month of Ramadan.”
Meanwhile, all the charity societies and associations operating in the emirate of Dubai are distributing thousands of free Iftar meals to poor, needy and low-income people. “This is also done in coordination with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai.”
