Al Ahli coach Cosmin Olaroiu said that they paid the price for not translating their opportunities into a goal but commended his team for the way they stood up against Guangzhou Evergrande.
He also added that it wasn't the end and they will look towards a better future from this experience.
The Red Knights, who had held the Chinese Super League side goalless in the first leg in Dubai, went down by a solitary goal at the Tianhe Sport Centre Stadium in the south Chinese city of Guangzhou on Saturday.
Al Ahli were left to play 46 minutes of regulation time with 10 men after defender Salmeen Khamis was given marching orders following a straight red card.
"We have to say congratulations to Guangzhou for winning the trophy. We were near, we tried our best. We played very well in the first half. We had a few chances that we missed," said Olaroiu. "We sat back a little in the second half and lost the ball a lot in the middle. After the red card, we still kept trying to play and score. The players did a good job even if they didn't win the trophy. In the Champions League final you can only create a few opportunities, but if you don't score, you pay the price. We had more clear-cut chances than them, but we didn't score," he added.
Nevertheless, Olaroiu said that it was a proud moment for UAE football. "They did very well for the UAE. It's not easy to lose in the final. We saw some problems today, but these games show us how strong we are. This is not the end, this is where we can start to fix the problems. We have to forget what happened to show the better future," said the Romanian.
"In the beginning, nobody believed we could make the final. With hard work and the sacrifices we made, we did it. In these kind of games you can see many things about your team. We can learn from this and improve in the future," he added.
Meanwhile, Abdullah bin Saeed Al Naboodah, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Al Ahli, said he was proud of the team despite the painful loss.
"I'm proud of what the team did. They reached the final of such a big competition and fought until the very end. We will learn from this experience and try and become an even stronger team in the future," said Abdullah bin Saeed Al Naboodah.
Meanwhile, Guangzhou Evergrande coach Luis Felipe Scolari said it was a wonderful night.
"The winners are those that never give up. Every one of my players has helped me," said the former Brazil coach.
"In life we have happy days and not so happy days, but tonight it has been a wonderful night. I have had a few great moments before, but tonight I feel quite extraordinary. We have now won two AFC Champions Leagues in three years. We are growing day-by-day so we can dream of improving further," he added.
Meanwhile, AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa congratulated Guangzhou Evergrande on their second title.
"I wish to extend my heartiest congratulations to Guangzhou Evergrande in winning the 2015 AFC Champions League in in front of their home audience tonight after two hard fought legs," Shaikh Salman said in a statement.
But he also added that Al Ahli deserve credit for the way they fought. "Runners-up Al Ahli deserve praise for providing stalwart opposition and making the final the exciting occasion it was," he added.
