Winter is here! And it's time to bask in the UAE sun, don some smart winter clothing, and engage in amusing winter activities. As winter replaces slumbers of summers with cheer all around, it also gives your health little hiccups.
Often the transition from hot-humid summers to cold winters affects many, and the recent rainfall in Abu Dhabi has cause temperatures to fall further, increasing the chances of taking ill even more.
Winter is the best time of the year in the UAE, and losing out on the thrills of the cities that become livelier with New Year just round the corner is an absolute no-no.
So, gear up for the winter and avoid falling sick with some smart tips here!
Keep medicines handy
No, not the prescription ones -- get those only from a doctor. We mean some over-the-counter (OTC) ones to fight off slight fever, a cold, a bad throat or a headache. OCT pills are not a substitute for a doctor, but they come in handy when you are in a spot where the doctor is a few hours away.
Eat seasonal fruits

This cannot be stressed enough. Seasonal fruits, especially citrus ones, are known to ward of minor illnesses, and people who consume fruits regularly fall sick to seasonal changes less often. Grab an orange, apple, kiwi...anything you like. Fruits will also keep you hydrated -- we all forget to drink water in winters, after all.
Skip coffee, savour green tea
This season is a great time to drink green tea (or get started if you haven't). Green tea contains more anti-allergens than normal tea. Skip the sugar and you may also see some numbers drop on the weighing scale. Warm tea will also ensure fewer chances of sore throat.
Know thy weather
Check the latest weather updates before you go outdoors. Avoid places that are likely to receive rain. One, it keeps you from getting wet. Two, you save hours by not getting stuck in traffic congestion.
More and more clothes
Temperatures in Dubai fell to a staggering 4.1 degrees over the weekend. And with winter in full swing, we might see temperatures going down further. Get ready to put on layers of clothing and cover your body against the cold!
