His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, opened the 18th edition of Sharjah International Narrators Forum (SINF) at Sharjah Expo Centre on Monday.
The three day-event, organised by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), which is being attended by storytellers, performers, narrators, and experts from different countries around the world, celebrates storytelling in the most magical way under the theme 'Fairy Tales'.
Addressing the opening session Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, chairman of the SIH, said: "Due to the success that has been achieved during the previous session, the SIH decided to organise this edition with a new style and new activities. The event this year is inspired by fairy tale characters, who have made the storytelling journey a classic archetype of entertainment and information through the centuries.
"With several activities in place for the next few days, we are confident that participants and visitors will have an opportunity to experience a world of fantasy, in addition to celebrating the storytelling spirit, global influence and the great work of some our most well-known storytellers." said Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam.
Weaving song, music and story together, the SINF will unfold several distinct programmes in the next few days including solo plays, seminars, roundtable discussions, workshops, testimonies and much more.
Dedicated towards helping the creative professionals celebrate the convergence of storytelling, the SINF is a great opportunity for storytellers, narrators and authors from all over the world at every level, to explore, discover and learn about the intricacies of storytelling.
The opening ceremony also showcased a documentary film on the evolution of the Forum and a toastmaster's speech.
