His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has directed Souq Al Jubail Management, the largest fresh products market in the UAE, to disburse Dh2 million to 236 Emirati fishermen in Sharjah ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

This order came during a telephone conversation with Waleed Al Sayegh, CEO of Sharjah Assets Management, via the direct line programme broadcast live on Sharjah Radio and TV on Wednesday.

Al Sayegh said that the Ruler of Sharjah takes interest in the issues of the fishermen and resolves them so as to motivate them to sustain this traditional profession for generations to come.

The management has taken a number of steps to support them in accordance with the leadership's instructions. It is also reviewing a plan that involves buying surplus fish from the fishermen in the emirate and selling them through a company. This will have a positive impact on the fishermen, he added.
