The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is to have a new grand mosque, worth Dh22 million, under the name 'Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi', downtown RAK city by Eid Al Adha.
The mosque, to accommodate 3,000 worshipers, comprises two Quran study centres, a big library, as well as a separate prayer room for women, according to Eng Shaikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi.
"The mosque, strategically located at the Nakheel busy area, adjacent to Al Manar Traffic Intersection, the Etisalat headquarters, and Home Centre, is to be completed within about three months."
The mosque, the biggest in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, is a unique architecture piece of Ottoman art and designs, he added. "The final touches and internal decorations of the mosque are in their final stage."
As per the blueprint of the project, the mosque can accommodate up to 2,600 male worshippers and 400 women, Shaikh Salem elaborated. "The total capacity of the mosque, worth Dh22 million, is 3,000 worshipers."
Elaborating, he said the mosque consists of two stories, a big hall for prayer for men, and a prayer room for women, along with two tall minarets, 62-meter high each.
"These are added to eight eye-catching and neatly-decorated domes that feature the magnificence of Ottoman engineering and architectural art, as well as a central 32-meter high dome."
The mosque also includes two separate Quran study centres for male and female memorisers, a big library, and two accommodations for the imam and muezzin on the second floor, he explained.
"These are apart from spacious parking spaces, toilets, ablution spaces, leave alone other infrastructure facilities and supplies," he said, noting the mosque is contributed by the offspring of the late Shaikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi.
