As the wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Princess Haya bint Al Hussein carries a huge responsibility. The mother of two spoke to Newsweek Middle East recently about her extensive support for the UAE's humanitarian efforts most especially in Haiti where Shaikh Mohammed sent his own personal jet to deliver humanitarian relief to those affected by Hurricane Matthew.
UAE in Haiti: Shaikh Mohammed sends personal jet to Haiti with aid
It can be remembered that she once took to social media to write about what was going on in Haiti which after the hurricane is yet to recover. She personally oversaw the distribution of relief goods in the Haitian capital of Port au-Prince which was organized by the International Humanitarian City in Dubai of which she is the chairperson.
In the same Newsweek report, she says: "I feel good when we are able to bring in the aid to those in need." She also gave credits to her team as well as the military personnel whom she credits as the key behind the success of the UAE's humanitarian missions - "I keep them all with me, all the faces, and all the names. And I thank the generous people who help them in my prayers"
In parting, she said that there is still much to be done in terms of aid in Haiti with about 800,000 citizens still without enough food and medicine.
