A Brazilian pilot flew over Dubai's majestic Palm Jumeirah and he has receipts, well, sort of.
A photo that he posted on social media shows him leaning out of the cockpit to take a selfie.
The photo, posted on the account @pilotganso, has already amassed nearly 15,000 likes and a tonne of comments questioning the photo's veracity. One Instagrammer even claims that the pilot used a 'green screen' to make it look like he's flying over Dubai. To the uninitiated, a green screen is used in movies to create computer generated backgrounds. Many also claim that he used Photoshop to create the misleading photo.
According to his profile, he is a Brazilian pilot living in the UAE.
But let's talk about the Palm photo. In the selfie over the Palm, he sticks out his hand and takes a photo while jutting out of the cockpit. About half of his body is out the plane. Yet, it seems quite questionable since his hair is not blowing against the wind. Another matter of discussion is that the photo looks too stable for that speed. Try sticking your hand out of a car travelling at 100km/hr and you will know.
A quick browse through his Instagram page shows he does this 'Photoshop stunt' quite often. Had something like this happened for real, the pilot would have been immediately taken off the roster, and probably fired.
Another question to ask is whether it's really possible to open windows of cockpits of passenger planes. Certainly not when the plane is in the air.
Here's the photo if you want to find out for yourself.
