A new smart money transfer bag introduced by the Dubai Police will help thwart any attempt to rob money transfer vehicles, according to officials. The bag, which is made of strong material to prevent theft, features an ink that will destroy money when it is stolen. Additional features of the bag include an alarm system, a tracking device, and smoke fumes that will frighten the thieves and expose them.
Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for criminal investigation, announced the creation of the new bag during a Press conference at the General Department of Anti-Narcotics of the Dubai Police. The event was attended by Colonel Eid Harib bin Thani, director the general department of anti-narcotics and Colonel Saeed Al Ayali, director of the criminal investigation department, along with a number of senior officers and journalists.
Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said that the smart bag will be made mandatory for money transporting companies by the beginning of next year.
Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, had held a meeting with the owners of money transporting companies earlier, said Maj-Gen Al Mansouri. The meeting presented important suggestions and recommendations to prevent crimes against money transporting vehicles. It had analysed the possibility of creating a smart device to curb theft.
Col Al Ayali said that robbing money transporting vehicles is not very common in Dubai as strong preventive measures are being taken by the police to eliminate the crime.
He said there are two types of crimes when it comes to stealing cash from money transporting vehicles. The first is the dishonest act by a team of employees to rob the vehicle and its contents. In the last five years, only one such crime had happened in 2015, followed by another this year.
The second type is robbery done by criminal gangs. According to the Dubai Police statistics, two crimes of this type were recorded in 2013, no crimes reported in 2014 and 2015, and two crimes happened in 2016. No such crime have been recorded in the current year.
