An Asian man refused to allow his children to stay with him in Dubai as he feared his second wife was "using magic to harm him". The five children are from an earlier marriage, the Dubai Police's Human Rights Department said.
According to Fatima Al Kindi, head of the section, after receiving information about the case, the police called the man. He said he has five children from his first marriage. After he got married to his second wife, he discovered she sought help from magicians to harm him. He then refused to allow his children to stay with him and sent them to his home country.
He said he pays for all expenses of his children.
Al Kindi said the man has showed the department receipts that prove he has been sending Dh5,000 towards his children's expenses every month for the past 10 years. He also bought a house for them.
Woman refuses to let ex-husband meet daughter
In another case, the department helped a UAE national, who complained that his wife left the country and prevented him from meeting his daughter.
According to Al Kindi, the Emirati married an Arab woman in 2010. After the birth of their daughter, she filed for divorce. Granting the divorce, a court ordered the Emirati to bear all expenses of the woman and child.
However, the woman left the country and refused to allow him to meet their daughter. Last year, he stopped sending the money.
He said he was "stunned" when he learnt the woman lodged a complaint at her embassy, claiming she had another baby with him. She complained he was not sending money for the second child.
The police convinced him to send money for his daughter's expenses.
