With the new traffic law coming into effect from July 1, the Sharjah Police in coordination with the Sharjah Family Supreme Council, have intensified campaigns to raise public awareness about child safety in vehicles.
The new federal traffic law, approved by Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, stipulates that motorists should provide child seats for children younger than four years of age. It also says if children below 10 years of age or 145cm in height are found seated in front passenger seats will see a fine of Dh400 slapped on the driver.
Major Abdullrahman Khattir, director of awareness and traffic media department, said that the police continue to spread safety awareness by distributing publications on internal and external roads. The police are making great efforts to convey child safety procedures to all parents.

Based on the new traffic law, all drivers and passengers must fasten their seatbelts while driving, with a fine of Dh400 and four penalty points for failure to comply; children under the age of four should also be provided with car seats.
Hanadi Saleh Al Yafei, head of the Child Safety Campaign's head of the organising committee, said that the initiative, aimed at raising awareness on the importance of providing kids with special, ensuring their seatbelts are fastened and that they are in the back seat of the vehicle, to reduce the risk of injuries in accidents.
