Ajman authorities intensify safety inspections

Ajman - The Ajman Civil Defence did not take in the role in the accidents as there was no fire; it was just an explosion.

The Ajman Civil Defence has intensified inspections at labour accommodations and warehouses following the incident where nine workers were moderately injured in a gas cylinder explosion at their living premises.
Lt-Col Faisal Mohammed Al Shaiba, deputy director of civil protection and safety department at the Ajman Civil Defence, said the incident happened on Monday. "A number of gas cylinders exploded at a labour accommodation causing injuries to nine workers. The civil defence did not take in the role in the accidents as there was no fire; it was just an explosion. The Ajman Police and ambulances arrived at the scene and dealt with the accident."
"In order to reduce such accidents, the authorities have intensified inspections at the industrial areas to check the storage of flammable material or gas cylinders. 
"Many warehouses stored over 100 gas cylinders, without adhering to the safety regulations, and is a punishable offence. The cylinders must be stored with proper ventilation and away from labour accommodations."
Lt-Col Al Shaiba added that the owners were given a grace period to rectify and implement proper procedures for fire safety. "The inspectors will visit the warehouse again to ensure they have followed the instructions, failure of which they would face legal actions."
He urged the owners of labour accommodations and warehouses to implement the safety and protection procedures and refrain from using it as a storage area, especially for dangerous materials.
