Aster MIMS Kottakkal offers a number of super specialities, which according to Dr Jasir V P, the Chief Executive Officer, helps in generating interest from international patients. The facility is located in one of the scenic landscapes of Kerala, which is renowned for its Ayurvedic treatments. The state-of-the-art facility is a 200-bed tertiary care hospital with almost all general specialities and a few super specialities such as cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics and neurosurgery. Aster MIMS Kottakkal was established in 2009 and was inaugurated by the former President of India, the late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. It received NABH accreditation in 2011 and employs around 720 people.
Jasir says, "We are the only NABH accredited hospital in the locality. Most of our international patients come for Ayurvedic treatments and then opt for any other treatments they require. The hospital also gets a number of international patients who come for orthopaedic treatments. "Some of our doctors are popular by word of mouth in the Middle East. Majority of international patients come from Oman and the UAE."
Recently the hospital carried out a partial knee replacement for a patient from Dubai. The surgery was done in the morning and the patient went home the next day.
When patients come to Ayurvedic hospitals, they want their general check up to be done before starting treatment, highlights Jasir. Patients are then referred to Aster MIMS.
"We also support a number of small clinics if they need super speciality support especially in critical emergency cases," concludes Jasir.
