Trivandrum: The move by the community organisation of lower caste Ezhava Hindus to float a third front in Kerala has got a boost with PM Narendra Modi accepting their invitation to unveil the statue of their towering leader R Shankar.
Modi's visit was announced by State Bharatiya Janata Party president V Muralidharan at the launch of the 'Samthuva Munnetta Yatra' being led by Vellappally Natesan, general secretary of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, at Kasargod on Monday. Muralidharan said that the prime minister will unveil the statue of Shankar, at Quilon on December 15. Natesan himself had met Modi in New Delhi last month and invited him.
Shankar, who was also president of the Congress in Kerala, was regarded as the man who transformed the SNDP into a powerful socio-cultural organisation.
He along with Mannath Padmanbhan, founder of Nair Service Society, a socio-cultural body of the upper caste Nair community, had made a strong endeavour to unite the Hindus in the state.
Natesan, who is undertaking the march from Kasargod to Trivandrum to mobilise support for the new political party, said that his main mission was to fulfil the dream of the leaders of the Ezhava and Nair communities.
