Mumbai: As international travel becomes stressful with long flights, airports are offering a bouquet of facilities to passengers to relieve the pressures. Mumbai, which had lagged for years on the amenities front, now offers a clutch of services at its new Terminal 2 (T2).
"An airport that witnesses 36 million-plus passengers per annum, including a significant number of tourists, has to offer world class services to travellers," Rajeev Jain, CEO, Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL), told Khaleej Times here. "GVK MIAL (the private entity that manages the airport) realised that it was becoming even more important for these services to cater to specific needs of the passengers to ensure a richer travel experience."
According to Jain, passengers to and from the Gulf countries constitute possibly the largest percentage of transit passengers at Mumbai's international airport, one of the busiest in India. Though airlines now operate direct flights from different Indian cities to Dubai and other major points in the Gulf, there are thousands of passengers who still transit through Mumbai.
GVK MIAL has three new initiatives to cater to these transit passengers: the Niranta transit hotel, the GVK lounge and Pranam GVK guest services. "The objective was to cater to passengers with a more personalised approach and provide the highest standard of services to create a unique and memorable experience at the airport," says Jain.
