EXCITEMENT IS BEGINNING to build for the upcoming Dubai Music Week festival with the announcement of headlining artists Ellie Goulding and Thirty Seconds to Mars.
British singer-songwriter Goulding will perform at the festival's second edition on September 24, marking her return to the city after bringing in the New Year at Sandance in 2012. American band Thirty Seconds To Mars - fronted by Suicide Squad actor Jared Leto - will follow with a performance on September 25. The band was originally scheduled to attend the Middle East Film and Comic Con in April, but were forced to postpone due to scheduling conflicts. Both shows will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Since her last appearance here, Goulding's career has been on the upswing: she contributed the chart-topping song, Love Me like You Do, to the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, a film that become one of the year's biggest hits, and recently wrapped up recording for her third studio album. Interest in Goulding's romantic life has also matched her rising stature, due in part to the revealing yet bitter track Don't, by Ed Sheeran, which chronicled the pair's tumultuous relationship.
Meanwhile, Thirty Seconds To Mars, the award-winning California based band, is set to showcase the talents of brothers Jared and Shannon Leto as well as lead guitarist Tomo Mili?evi?. The group last performed in the UAE at a sold-out show in Abu Dhabi in 2011. Lead singer Jared has successfully managed to balance both his acting and music careers, selling over five million albums with the group he helped form nearly two decades ago as well as taking home an Oscar in 2013 for his supporting role in Dallas Buyers Club.
Dubai Music Week, the brainchild of legendary record producer Quincy Jones, will feature four concert nights with headlining artists from across the music spectrum. Two more urban and Arabic acts - for September 23 and 26 - will be announced soon, with the possibility of a major rap star joining the fold.
Tickets start at Dhs295, with a sales date for Ellie Goulding's show expected soon. Tickets for Thirty Seconds to Mars are on sale now at www.ticketmaster.ae.
