To us and millions of others, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is more than just a first class athlete and sportsman. He's also an inspirational public figure and a top role model for younger generations. Apart from his cricketing credentials, the fact that he's extremely active on social media has doubtless played a part in his rising popularity. Virat recently posted a picture of himself and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma on Instagram and captioned it with a sweet Valentine's Day message. How could such an open and endearing display of affection not capture our attention? We decided to list some interesting facts about Virat, and also our personal observations on his life and career.
Of sports and life
This talented middle-order batsman has been described by iplt20.com as "the quintessential new-age cricketer who plays his game aggressively and is unafraid to express his emotions on the field." We believe that's true of his life off the field as well, judging by his Instagram posts, which, whether they involve family, friends or fellow cricketers, are always heartfelt, and often inspirational.
Social media star
Virat has 14 million followers on Twitter and over 10 million on Instagram. A recent post about a book that changed his life, Autobiography of a Yogi, with the hashtags #onelove#begrateful#helponeanother attracted a great deal of interest and comments from fans; we are appreciative of any celebrity who in these troubled times for the world attempts to bring a bit of positivity into people's lives through his/her public persona. We have to admit we're not immune to Virat's charm and impressive personality either!
The Bollywood connection
We all know that Anushka Sharma and Virat have been rumoured to be dating for a while but the couple have not been very forthcoming about it to the public or media. However, his recent Instagram post on Valentine's day could be interpreted as a powerful statement. While he deleted his original tweet wishing Anushka, which led to a humourous backlash, the fact that the Instagram pic stayed up means he is serious about acknowledging the relationship to the public. We hope that despite the inescapable glare of the spotlight these two beautiful people live happily ever after.
Our pick for a biopic
We know it's too early to be speculating on this but who would you like to see play Virat Kohli if ever a film were to be made on his life? For some reason the only actor we can picture doing a great job is Bollywood's favourite livewire, Ranveer Singh. With his tremendous energy and vibrant personality, both off and on screen, we feel he could do justice to the role. Let's hope he puts his Befikre days behind him and concentrates on some better quality films in the future.
