Samsung Electronics' newly launched smartphone Galaxy S7 edge arrived to power retailers in the UAE on Saturday and witnessed good response.
The pre-booking campaign, which was run for a couple of days in February for Galaxy S7 and S7 edge soon after its global launch in Barcelona, Spain, attracted 10,000 bookings in Dubai, according to industry sources.
Last week, S7 made available for sale in the UAE but S7 edge is doing much better on the first day, according to retailers. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are priced Dh2,499 and Dh2,799 respectively.
"The first day response to Galaxy S7 edge is much better than S7. Dual sim devices are in high demand," Eros Group chief executive officer Deepak Babani told Khaleej Times.
Samsung is market leader in terms of volume in the UAE and iPhone ranked second by value. The second positons in terms of volume moves around between Huawei and Lenovo. LG's newly launched G5, which is expected to hit UAE stores by the end of March, likely to give tough competition to Samsung's new devices, according to industry specialists.
"The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are very bold representations of our commitment to the hundreds of millions of people around the world who love our products and inspire our work, said Tarek Sabbagh, head of IT and Mobile Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics.
Without compromising design, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge both have increased utility with IP68 water and dust resistance.
"Samsung Galaxy S7 edge received very good response on the first day," Nadeem Khanzadah, head of OmniChannel Retail in Jumbo Electronics, told Khaleej Times.
Talking about the new devices, Jackey's Electronics chief operating officer Ashish Panjabi said: "With regards S7, it is a great product. S7 has same size battery as Note 5 but is a smaller device and battery life is normally an important factor for most smartphone users. Galaxy S7 edge has an even bigger battery than Note 5, so this will be a bonus for many consumers,"
"The low light photography improvements are also excellent. I got to do a side by side comparison with the S6 Edge and S7 Edge where the difference was staggering," Panjabi explained.
