So you've graduated. Congratulations! You're now off to become a part of the world. Finding a job in Dubai as a millennial is no easy feat. You're up against people older than you with more experience to speak of. And this is a situation many of us face in today's job market. But if you're in Dubai, here's something to be happy about.
According to a study done by the World Economic Forum, the UAE ranks number two in countries where young professionals want to work in. The UAE was beaten  to the number one spot by China. The same research cites strong job prospects as the main reason why the UAE is attracting a lot of millennials from all over the globe. In a country where only 1 out of 10 people sees unemployment as a serious issue, who wouldn't want to move here?
But how do 20-something hopefuls survive in a competitive job market such as Dubai? Here are some tips from one millennial to another.

Your first job

It will NOT be the one you wanted. Only a small number of young professionals land a job they love as their first job. Often, you end up in a field you're not familiar with or a job that drains the life out of you. This is the reality and the challenge here is to keep your head up and persist until you find something suitable.

Keep your passion alive

Working on something that isn't aligned with your passions doesn't mean you have to forget those passions. Remember to make time for the things you love. Keep them alive and have activities related to them.  And who knows?  You might even land a job related to your interests.

Know that university doesn't prepare you for this

More often than not, millennials come out of university poised to take over the world with the years of learning they have undertaken. Fact check: Almost none of what you have learned will matter. Observe what your colleagues are doing, read articles on corporate ethics and even join LinkedIn!

Make mistakes

When you do get the job, make room for mistakes, a big room at that. Learning to work is akin to learning to ride a bicycle. If you make mistakes, don't beat yourself up over it. Learn what can be done to make it better in the future.

It will be amazing

You're in one of the most beautiful cities in the world where anything is possible! You'll meet people you've never thought you would meet before. You'll see places you never thought you'd see and Dubai will give you a new perspective on how the world works. At the end of it all, you come out with more knowledge than you could ever dream of. Now you're ready to take over the world.
