7.2 magnitude quake hits South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands

An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale hit South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands on Saturday, said the China Earthquake Networks Centre.

The epicentre was monitored at 56.2 degrees south latitude and 27.1 degrees west longitude, with a depth of 70 km, Xinhua news agency reported.
